Battle Royale has been the most crowded genre in PC Gaming for the past few years now. Newer battle royales games are flooding and taking over the market every year. Still, there are a few battle royales that have stood out and are likely to in the future too. In this list, we will go over 5 such battle royale games for PC. As the title suggests, we’ve only included Free to Play battle royale games in this list.

1. Fortnite Battle Royale:

‘Fortnite Battle Royale’ is a companion game to Fortnite: Save the World, a co-op survival game. The game is developed and published by Epic Games and is available for PC through the Epic Games Store.

Fortnite has become on of the most popular games in the genre thanks to its regular content updates.

Each match has 100 players fighting and outlasting each other to get the victory royale. You can play the game alone in solo mode or team up with your friends in the duo or squad modes.

The game is also popular for its fun emotes like Switchstep, Breakneck, Laid Back Shuffle and more. You will often see internet celebrities or Hollywood stars perform these fortnite moves and dance steps.

The game has had many in-game events such as the ‘Marshmello Concert’, Travis Scott Astronomical Experience‘ and many more. The ‘Travis Scott Astronomical Experienceevent had over 27.7 Million unique live viewers worldwide.

The game has become popular across different generations of players thanks to various collaborations with brands like NFL(National Football League), Nerf & Marvel.

Apex Legends is a fast-paced battle royale developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. The game is set in the same fictional universe as the Titanfall franchise, a well-known game franchise by Respawn. Despite no prior announcements or marketing, Apex Legends boasted a massive 25 million player count in its first week of release.

In ‘Boosted’(Season 6), the most recent season of the game, Respawn introduced a new legend(character) called ‘Rampart’ (short for Ramya Parekh) a legend who hails from India. Anjali Bhimani, the voice behind Rampart is also the voice behind Symmetra(Satya Vaswani) an Indian character from Blizzard’s Overwatch.

3. Call of Duty Warzone:

Call of Duty: Warzone is another free to play fast-paced battle royale developed by Infinity Ward and Raven Software and published by Activision. Warzone is a free to play standalone game which is part of Call of Duty Modern Warfare, but doesn’t require any purchase to play it. The game was released in March 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

The game quickly rose to popularity on Twitch as streamers found it really fun and addictive. Streamers like CourageJD, DrDisrespect and Nadeshot stream the game regularly with thousands of viewers watching.

In May 2020, Activision had announced that Warzone had surpassed over 60 million downloads in the first two months.

Z1 Battle Royale (formerly known as H1Z1: King of the Kill) is a battle royale originally developed and published by Daybreak Game Company. It was released in early access on Steam in early 2015 and was fully released out of early access on February 28, 2018.

Each match you will see up to 100 players scavenging, hunting, fighting and outlasting each other for survival and victory. Players can play solo, duo (group of two) or squad (group of 5). As players get picked off and time passes, a circle of toxic gas slowly closes in from all sides to restrict the play area on the map.

5. Hyper Scape:

Hyper Scape is a futuristic fast paced battle royale game developed and published by Ubisoft. The launch of this game witnessed Ubisoft’s entry into the battle royale genre. The game takes place in Neo-Arcadia in the year 2054.

Besides the regular battle royale mechanics, players can make use of special abilities known as “Hacks” to perform different actions. For instance, hacks can make you invisible or can turn you into a giant ball that bounces around. Players can have a maximum of 2 hacks per round, which can be swapped out.

The game also has an AI host that can modify certain aspects of the game to change the pace of the game. Changes such as infinite ammo, or low-gravity mode or revealing enemy locations on the minimap. Twitch viewers can help the AI decide what changes to do during the game.

Players can earn points for battle pass by either playing the game or watching live streams of the game on Twitch.

This game is a really unique take on the battle royale genre.
