Steam sets a new record with 26.4 Million peak active concurrent users
Steam has broken its own record of concurrent active users once again. The platform had approx 26M concurrent active users yesterday.
The previous all time high record was set at 25.4M concurrent users when the concurrent users count peaked on January 2, 2021. Back then many players were playing Rust as it became the new trend after a couple of big streamers started playing on the OfflineTV Rust server.
New all time peak record:
According to SteamDB, a reliable tool that tracks Steam database statistics, the new all time high record for concurrent active users is 26,401,443 which happened yesterday, February 07, 2021.
With the COVID-19 pandemic more & more people are spending their time working from home and this has made their lives even more connected to the internet. Working from home gives people a lot of time to spend. People now use this time playing games online with friends. With Steam being possibly the biggest game launcher and platform for PC, it has certainly benefited from this. That’s what the numbers clearly show. Some popular titles being played are CSGO, Dota 2, PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS, Apex Legends & GTA V.
Still, the record for concurrent active users in a game hasn’t been broken yet. Meaning while many were logged in into the client, the number of players actually playing a game was significantly less. The concurrent active users count still was quite big than it has been in a while.
Reason:
The reason for such a spike in the number of users logged in into steam remains unknown. Small spikes can usually be seen during the weekends. But what actually is surprising is the fact that a big spike in concurrent user base happened despite there being no big AAA launch or in-game event.
The pandemic really has brought everyone online. Gaming is at its all time peak, and is growing rapidly. The numbers surely are attracting a lot of eyeballs, especially non-endemic brands, which is a positive for us all as a community.
