Horizon Forbidden West could be delayed to 2022

Horizon Forbidden West, the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn was supposed to release in the second half of 2021 but now seemingly could be delayed to 2022.

After the game’s tease back in 2020 there have been no big development updates from the developers yet. Back in November 2020, a PlayStation trailer revealed the release window for several PlayStation titles including Horizon Forbidden West.

PlayStation trailer shows Horizon Forbidden West to be released in second half of 2021

A recent tweet by Vadim Elistratov says that games like Overwatch 2, Hogwarts Legacies, Gran Turismo 7 and more won’t be releasing this year. Popular YouTuber Anton Logvinov replied to the tweet talking about Horizon Forbidden West.

The tweet is in Russian and so is the reply, but a Resetra user (PS9) translated Anton’s reply which says “I would add Horizon to that list too”. It seems like Horizon Forbidden West will be delayed to next year, as the leak comes from a fairly reputable source. Anton was the first to leak that Horizon Zero Dawn would make its way to PC, so he could be right about this too.

Seeing the example of Cyberpunk 2077, it seems like no developer wants to hurry into releasing a game before it is completely ready, which of course is a good thing.

Horizon Forbidden West is still scheduled for a late 2021 release as the developers haven’t officially made any statements about a possible delay. Still, it is likely that the game will be delayed considering the challenges introduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic have significantly affected the work pace of game development companies.
