Velocity Gaming rebrands as Team Mahi

Yes, that’s right. Velocity Gaming has rebranded itself. Majority of its fanbase and esports enthusiasts were prepared for something to change or a rumored acquisition thanks to the teasers and rumors, but nobody expected such a big change.

Velocity Gaming teased a few days back that they will be announcing something big soon. They also teased about the rebrand saying “VLT no more” on their social media and YouTube streams of Zishu & other members of the organization.

The announcement came in yesterday, after their match against Global Esports in the TEC Challenger Series 5 Grand Finals. Velocity Gaming won the match & the tournament 3-1 against Global Esports in the bo5 matchup.

Team Velocity Gaming has rebranded itself as Team Mahi and will now function under Mahi Granites Pvt Ltd.

Why the rebrand?

Many of you must have questions like,  “why the rebrand?” or “why Team Mahi?”. We had the same reaction as well(not really). Manoj “Sentinel” Kasyap the CEO of Mahi Granites and owner of Team Mahi(former Velocity Gaming) has answered all the questions in a YouTube video linked below.

Starting 2021, Velocity Gaming will be referred to as Team Mahi.

Sentinel also mentioned some reason for the rebrand in the video. “I have more resources available which I can spend on players to get better performance”,  said Manoj “Sentinel” Kasyap.

He also mentioned that the rebrand will offer the organization “more financial control” and “better brand visibility”.

We reached out to Manoj “Sentinel” Kasyap, asking him about the rebrand on which he said, “As said the rebrand is mere a change in name and nothing significant, people want something dramatic to be the answer for the name change but that’s pretty much it. He further added, “Better finances and resources are available to do better things in 2021“.

Talking to The Gaming Reporter, Lalith a.k.a “CK“(Co-owner of Team Mahi) said, “The reason behind rebrand is simple as better resources and finance will be available to us.” “I can guarantee to all the fans that they would see many changes soon & also hope their support will be the same for us as always.

Team Mahi signed Nikhil “Sieh” Bhansali as analyst for their Valorant team

The team also signed Nikhil “Sieh” Bhansali, the TEC freelance caster as an analyst for their Valorant team.

We asked Nikhil “Sieh” Bhansali about his thoughts on joining the team, to which he replied, “I am ecstatic for the opportunity to work with some of the best minds in Valorant Esports South Asia, and an opportunity to use my capabilities to help the team get an edge.”

Talking about his responsibilities Bhansali said, “My responsibility is in compiling resources for the team that would help them be better prepared for a matchup. This could be preparing research reports on new maps, or analyzing international playstyles or scouting future opposition. The edge I bring to this is my capability to transform intangible factors to tangible advantages. I do this as an analytical caster as well, by converting individual statistics to analytical speech to convey to the audience. With TM, I would do this with significantly more detail.”

He then added, “My goal with Team Mahi is to contribute in winning an international event.” showing how confident he is in the team’s potential and his own skills as an analyst.

Even though Kasyap says nothing will change, now that the team has a parent organization, some things might change. Will it affect the bond between the team and the fans?, probably not.
