Twitch removes PogChamp emote after Gootecks calls for violence

Twitch has removed the PogChamp emote from its platform following the call for violence by Gootecks via Twitter amidst the US Capitol riots. Yes, arguably one of the most popular Twitch emote is no longer on the platform.

What is PogChamp:

“What is PogChamp?”, one might ask. PogChamp is an emote that is used to express hype i.e. the feeling of excitement. Pog stands for ‘Play of the game’. The emote is used on Twitch when a streamer wins a game, or performs good, or does something crazy. There’s also other similar terms for PogChamp such as “poggers”, “pog”, “pogU”, etc.

The above image is the actual PogChamp emote. The face of the emote is Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez, a fighting game streamer and internet personality.

Why Twitch removed the PogChamp emote:

This happened following Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez’s controversial tweets that called for a “civil unrest” on behalf of a woman rioter, who was shot and by the law enforcements and died inside the Capitol. Gootecks also went on to call the woman a “#MAGAMartyr”.

Gootecks also posted urged his Twitter followers to watch a graphic video clip of the pro-Trump rioter woman who got shot by the law enforcement authorities.

As these statements by Gootecks(the face of the Twitch emote) promote violence, Twitch has come out and decided to remove the PogChamp emote that has Gootecks face on it from its platform.

“We’ve made the decision to remove the PogChamp emote following statements from the face of the emote encouraging further violence after what took place in the Capitol today.”, said Twitch. “We can’t in good conscience continue to enable use of the image.”
